Cough: self-help and treatment
Cough helps the respiratory tract to self-cleanse and is therefore not a disease, but a symptom. To treat and cure the cause, it is therefore important to find out where the cough is coming from. It is recommended to have the cough checked out by the pediatrician.

Whether the cough of your child is in need of therapy depends on the type and cause of the cough. In most cases, it is not the cough itself that needs to be treated, but the disease causing it.
Actually, the cough as a natural protective mechanism of the body should not be suppressed by medication. But there are exceptions, such as when your child can no longer sleep because of the coughing fits. Let your pediatrician advise you and, if necessary, prescribe suitable medications that reduce or prevent the onset of coughing.

Recurrent nocturnal coughing can tense the nerves, especially those of the parents. However, if your child does not show any further impairment, it is probably just a slight irritation to the airways that does not need to worry you.
