After a womb scraping (curettage, Abrasio), physical protection is recommended. Not just immediately after the procedure, but for about a week. Since the cervix is slightly open after a curettage for a while, you should also for about three weeks on bathing, swimming, sauna and sexual intercourse and do not use tampons.
Cuts: pain and bleeding afterwards
If you feel painful pains similar to your normal menstrual cramps after a womb scraping, this is normal and not a cause for concern. However, if the pain lasts longer or if you are very violent, you should contact your gynecologist. This is also true with urgency in case of sudden onset of pain and very heavy bleeding or fever.
In the first few days after a curettage, a slight degree of haemorrhage is usually expected, which may increase slightly after 3-5 days and reach the level of a normal menstrual period. Up to two weeks later, a bloody to brownish discharge is not uncommon, but it should be over by the Next menstruation at the latest. If in doubt, contact your gynecologist if you feel that it is a true bleeding (bright reddish) or a massive blood loss or are not sure.
